EVENT INFORMATION

1

PIT SPACE

  • Pit location will be based off first-come first-served.

  • You will be allowed to setup a 10x10 canopy and must keep your tools and bike within this canopy.

  • Due to limited space at Apex, we must keep our pit area tight to make room for the other teams.

2

PENALTIES

  • See individual penalties below. Be aware race direction can choose to penalize teams for flagrant disregard of the rules at any time during the race event if needed to correct actions deemed to be unsafe to the other competitors.  We never want to add penalties but will do so to protect the rest of the teams.

  • Lap penalties will be assigned to the whole team if listed as a penalty below.  Individual riders will be the focus of being disqualified from the race unless the team in whole is causing the safety hazards.

  • Race direction will do everything in its power to be fair and just when decerning the best course of action to keep all teams and riders racing and competing.

  • Penalties are not the goal.  Only safety is the goal.  Please help us keep this race fun and safe.

3

AWARDS

We will host a short awards ceremony in front of the registration building for all of our podium finishing teams.  We will also host a separate podium ceremony for the overall winners.  Teams will be welcomed to take photos of their team members. Mini Moto Alliance/2WTD will also take photos of the podiums.

RACE REGULATIONS

THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL RACE EVENT

There will not be championship points accrued in the 2WTD 2024 race series.  This is meant to be a fun endurance race for everyone missing the 24hr events.  While this will not be The 24, it will be an exciting race at one of our favorite race tracks.  Help us support local tracks!  There will be trophies and medals for the top 3 teams in each class including a separate trophy for the team that wins overall.

TECH RULES

  • Every machine must be ready to race when it is brought to technical inspection. Passing Technical Inspection does not give a machine immunity from protest.

  • The Technical Inspector must inspect and pass every machine before it will be allowed on the track. Tech will reject any machine that does not meet requirements.

  •  The Technical Inspector may at his discretion allow a “temporary fix” for a particular race event.

  •  The following items must be safety wired, or secured in a manner approved by the Technical Inspector (RTV silicone may be acceptable:  Oil Drain Plug, Oil fill cap Radiator Caps, Axle Nuts, Master clip link, any bolt that retains any fluid.

  • A fuel catch can or overflow reservoir is required to be securely fastened on all carbureted bikes.

  •  A coolant catch can on the radiator overflow is required on all watercooled machines without an OEM overflow reservoir. Water cooled engines may use plain water, or water with Water Wetter or any racetrack approved coolant. Ethylene glycol-based antifreezes are prohibited.

  • All machines must have an operating engine kill switch on the handlebars.

  •  All machines must have a self-closing throttle.

  • All machines must have fully operational front and rear brakes.

  •  Cameras must be safely secure to the motorcycle; no cameras are allowed on helmets.

  •  Race numbers must be clearly displayed in the front, left and right side of the motorcycle. The number can be chosen by each rider but if a conflict occurs the later rider to register for the event must change his/ her number prior to the machine entering the track. In this case, adding an “X” to the end of    the number will generally be considered sufficient. Number plates, or number display areas, must be of adequate size and proportion so that the number is easily distinguishable at speed by officials and other riders.

TRACK ENTRY AND EXIT

Entry and exit of Apex Kart Track will be performed ONLY IN THE HOT PIT AREA.  You will enter the track near the Tech inspection Canopy at the right side of hot pit and exit at the end of the back straight that exits into the left side of the hot pit.  NO ONE is allowed to exit near the parking lot. If anyone exists at random and in random locations they will be penalized 5 laps for each exit.  If a team continues to disregard this rule they will be disqualified.  Anyone looking to exit the track must throw a hand up or leg out immediately after Turn 1 to indicate their need to exit.  Anyone failing to signal their exit will be given a 1st warning then be penalized 5 laps for each infraction after this warning.  Flagrant disregard for safely signaling your exit from the track will result in being disqualified from the race. This will be directed at the rider in question and should not affect the entire team. The team will be given the opportunity to continue.

RACE START

This will be a Le Mans start.  It will be a short run across track to your bike.  All teams will be allowed to have 1 holder for their bike and 1 rider during the race start.  There will not be grid positions.  Your bikes starting location will be based off REGISTRATION of your team.  First come first serve for having your team on Pole.

CRASHING

MANDATORY TECH INSPECTION IF YOU CRASH: Crashing is meant to cost you time.  We do this to avoid reckless riders throwing their bikes away constantly with no regard to other riders safety.  We will penalize you on top of the time lost if you do not come in and have race direction re-tech your bike.

Crashing will be recognized as ANYTIME your handlebars touch the ground.  If you’ve crashed, you will be allowed to move yourself and your bike off the track as quickly as possible.  You must do a safety check of yourself and your bike.  If you need help, try to move out of the impact zone and track officials will come to you. If you can’t move, this is fine, just stay low and avoid the urge to sit up suddenly for your own safety.

If you and your bike are safe to continue on track (not spilling oil or coolant) you MUST RETURN TO HOT PIT.  Complete your lap and throw your hand up or foot out after Turn 1 and exit to hot pit.  A tech inspection must be performed with your bike before being allowed back onto the track. You can repair your bike first but you must bring your bike to the tech station at track entry and get a thumbs up before you can rejoin the race.  If a team crashes and does not come into pit, they will be black flagged.  If they do not comply with the black flag they will be disqualified from the race.  All teams must comply.

PRACTICE

There will be a 1hr practice time before the race start.  Practice will start at 8am.  This will be an open session to allow all bikes to test their bikes and test transponders before the race starts.  Pay attention to the track officials as you will be notified if your transponder is not being picked up at the start/finish line.

RACE DURATION AND FINISH

This is a full 12hr race.  The race will start officially at 9am and finish at 9pm.  This is a timed event.  The team with the most laps within that 12hr period will have the overall win.  There will also be a top 3 for each race class.  You can win your class and also win the overall, meaning you will have (2) trophies.

REFUELING

  • All teams must respect refueling rules.  You MUST shut off your bike in order to refuel. This is mandatory to prevent fires.  You can refuel OUTSIDE of your canopy.

  • All teams MUST bring a fire extinguisher for safety in the event of a fire from refueling.

  • Teams not following refueling rules will get a first warning. 2nd infraction will be a 10 lap penalty for each offense.

  • Flagrant disregard for refueling safety will result in possible DQ from the race. Race direction will decide whether this is the whole team or just individual riders causing the hazard.

REPAIRS

  • A red flag will mean all teams not impacted by the incident will bring their bikes into the hot pit and under their canopy.  Teams will be allowed to repair/refuel bikes as needed.

  • Be aware that red flags rarely have a known completion time.  Restart can occur shortly or after some time.

  • Race direction will not hold the restart of the race for a team that’s still wrenching.  Race will resume and the team can rejoin whenever they finish.
